Personality:

Kai, in a nutshell, is an introvert.

He is a man of little words. He is more inclined to listen rather than speak. He also keeps his thoughts and feelings to himself, only expressing them to the ones he loves.

Kai is a sensitive soul. An unintended slur can offend him, but he won’t show it (but sometimes shows through his eyes). He tends to harbour grudges and remember even the littlest deeds of injustice done against him. He can also be rash and act on feelings rather on facts, which sometimes land him into unwanted trouble.

He is shy, a trait he has retained since a child, and keeps mostly to himself. He tends not to draw attention to himself in social situations, speaking with two people at the most. As a result, he doesn’t make friends easily as he is selective. However, once he considers someone a friend, he opens up and reveals his true self to them.

Although his cautiousness around people is often misinterpreted as arrogance, he is a truly kind and caring individual. He is thoughtful and sensitive to the feelings of others and often tries to help them out in times of trouble, sometimes to the point of self sacrifice. He also enjoys a good laugh; a good joke never fails to lighten his heart. His social circle is somewhat small, thus he treasures each friend and enjoys spending time with them.

He is aware of his shortcomings, perhaps more so than others. Sometimes, he lets his flaws get in the way (of doing things or relating to people), and makes them seem worse than they are. His self-deprecation might be rooted in his self-esteem; he doesn’t quite see his self-worth.

Kai doesn’t believe in love at first sight, but he also believes that it isn’t entirely impossible as well. If it happens, it happens. He is capable of showing great love and affection to a lover. In a relationship, he highly values loyalty, and is a strictly one-man person. He tends to be possessive of his lover, somewhat clingy, and is prone to jealousy. He also enjoys warm cuddles at night.

Although some might call his curiosity a blessing, Kai regards it as a curse. When he is not talking, he is observing things and people around him. His mind is almost never at rest, asking questions to which some have no answers. And sometimes he finds himself in a lot of trouble by asking the wrong ones.

He is aware that he is gay and sometimes struggles with his sexuality. Because of this, he is not openly gay, but doesn’t try to act straight either. Although he knows that not everyone can easily accept homosexuals, he tries his best to not to become like homophobes and gay-haters, and strives to accept everyone for who they are inside.

Appearance:

Upon looking at him, one instantly notices the timid gaze of his dreamy blue eyes. He tends to hide his emotions from others, but they often leak through his eyes, which often give away how he truly feels.

Much of his good looks derive from his well defined facial features. His face is angular, having a strong jaw line and high cheekbones, but is balanced by a gentle nose and delicate lips.

His eyebrows are neatly groomed into soft arches, and his cheeks glow with a splash of pink. He also maintains his scruff regularly, never having it completely shaved. He wears his dark brown hair short and tousled, always appearing wind-blown. As he enjoys being out in the open, his skin is sun-kissed, thus having a healthy golden tone.

He stands at 5’9”, and his lean, toned frame is well proportioned, which allows him to pull of almost any look. In choosing clothes, he seeks both comfort and style, and dresses himself casually, yet with a touch of class and flair.

In an area of his body not usually seen, a tattoo hides underneath his clothes. A runic symbol that bears the meaning “Destiny” forever rests low on his waist to his right. This tattoo is only meant for the eyes of the one he loves.

Kai’s smile is one that speaks of warmth and sincerity. He doesn’t smile a lot, but when he does, he smiles with all his heart; whomever he smiles at is very lucky indeed.

History:

Life had always been kind to him. He grew up in a family where his father was a successful merchant, trading silk and cotton as well as manufacturing high quality clothing, which meant they were rich to the point where he could get whatever he wanted. But it didn’t mean that he could; his mother wouldn’t allow that to happen. As he grew up, she taught him to work for what he wanted.

His mother had always lavished her love on him since his birth. Being the only child, he had his mother’s full attention, and he grew close to her and loved her greatly. His father was hardly at home as he had to tend to his business. Nevertheless, he loved his father no less as he understood that his father’s absence was unevitable if food was to be put on the table.

Kai’s earlier years were spent in school, and he learned to read and write quickly. He was painfully shy as a child, and made very few friends, the closest of which he saw his teenage years through. As he got older, his mother, who was of the same sign, trained him to hone his skills. Eventually, under her patient guidance, he became proficient in them and gained considerable control over his magic.

Some time in his early teenage years, he began to deeply care for one of his close friends his age. And it frightened him, as that particular friend was a boy. For all this time, he only knew that love between two people could only happen between a man and a woman. The fact that he felt so strongly for a boy meant that love could happen between two individuals of the same sex. In time, he accepted his sexuality, which eventually led him to reveal his true feelings to his friend. Unfortunately, the feelings were not mutual, and his confession drove a wedge between them. Needless to say, they hardly spoke to each other after that. Kai suffered a broken heart, but moved on. Ever since, he became cautious around people, especially men for fear of falling for them and hurting himself all over again.

He never came out to parents about his sexuality because he knew it would break their hearts – chiefly his mother – as he was the only son.

Later on, he took up a position in his father’s thriving business, which he found not to be to his liking. He didn’t enjoy spending hours in the various branches of his father’s shops being lambasted by disagreeable customers. Whether it was because of his sign or magic, or simply of his disposition, he felt drawn to help people, to heal the wounds he could and offer support for the ones he couldn’t. He continued to work hard to earn his own money for many years. When he finally obtained enough, he left his job, much to his father’s dismay, and enrolled in the Academy in Vione with his mother’s blessing. He wanted to learn to master his abilities to be able to help people as best as he could.
